First Cape Cod Bicycle Summit to be held on November 8
Cape Cod Times – 10/11/13
The first Cape Cod Bicycling Summit will be held on Friday, November 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cape Cod Community College, 2240 Iyannough Road in West Barnstable. The summit is co-sponsored by the Cape Cod Chapter of MassBike, Barnstable County Mass in Motion, the Town of Barnstable and Sen. Dan Wolf’s Office.

Third-graders targeted for bicycle education

This week, 8-year-olds across Palo Alto brought their bikes to school for “bike rodeos,” in which they took over the playgrounds to practice skills like how to steer around broken glass, what to do if a garbage bin is blocking the bike lane (look and scan over your left shoulder before steering around the obstacle) and how to navigate intersections.

USA BMX launches after school program

USA BMX has launched a new after school enrichment program based on a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum. The program, which had a soft rollout in April, is now integrated into more than 20 school districts across the United States.

Downey to move forward with bicycle master plan

Mayor Mario Guerra wants to transform Downey one bicycle at a time. The city is developing a bicycle master plan after receiving a $225,000 Caltrans grant in late September and providing $25,000 in matching funds. The plan could lead to bicycle lanes and other infrastructure improvements, but city officials say action to improve Downey’s roads for riders can and should be taken now.

Bicycle summit set for Brainerd area

Bicycle enthusiasts from across the state will gather in the Brainerd area on Monday, and Tuesday to share how they are getting more people on bikes more often in Minnesota. Bicycling improves the health of individuals, communities, the environment and the economy, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said.

Bicycle Film Festival hits London

The tenth edition of the Bicycle Film Festival’s (BFF) kicks off on October 3 in London. The four-day event which showcases and celebrates a number of the best cycling films takes place at the Barbican until October 6.

Wheel maker brings it all home to Eugene
The Register-Guard – 9/26/13
Rolf Prima Wheel Systems has brought production of the aluminum rims used in its bicycle wheels home to Eugene, after outsourcing rim manufacturing to Asia for more than a decade. The wheel systems have been handmade in Eugene since the company opened its doors a little over a decade ago. But Rolf Prima, like other bicycle manufacturers, had the aluminum rims for the wheels made in China and Taiwan.
