Bay Area retailer retires; employees take over

When Authorized Bicycle Shop owner Mike Kramer made the decision to retire, he didn’t want to sell the store to just anyone. “I went to my employees and told them it was time for me to get out,” said Kramer. “And I proposed a plan that would make it easy for them to buy the shop.” Scott Hill and Dave Kerr, each longtime Authorized employees, took the opportunity to buy the store from Kramer over the course of several years.
NICA runs pilot program to include middle schoolers

The National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) is running a new pilot program to include middle schoolers in some of its mountain bike programs, which hitherto, have been only for high school students.
New Trek advocacy program promotes local change

At Trek World last week, company president John Burke introduced a new program to support its dealers’ efforts to create more bicycle-friendly communities across the country. “Game Changers” aims to connect retailers with advocacy groups IMBA, People for Bikes and the League of American Bicyclists to promote change in their shops’ local communities.
