Earlier this month we learned that bicycle-related travel pumps $400 million into Oregon’s economy each year. Now Travel Oregon, the state’s tourism development and marketing organization, has embarked on the second part of that research project: a comprehensive look at the economic impact of bicycle-related industry.

After a two-year hiatus, the Pittsfield Cyclocross youth bicycle racing series is making its return to the Pittsfield Common. For children age 12 and under, the four-week series of bicycle races returns Thursday nights from May 30 through June 20. Races are free and are standalone events, so there’s no need to complete the entire series.

Eugene Blesing wants to see quality and affordable American-made bicycle frames being manufactured in Kalamazoo. The 42-year-old Kalamazoo native has always been a motorcycle and bicycle aficionado, so when his friend, Daniel Kastner, asked him to join his two-wheel business incubator called The Reality Factory at 213 E. Frank Street, he happily accepted.

City officials in Savannah are throwing a bicycle block party in hopes of coaxing more kids into playing outdoors.The Sunday event is free for families and will feature games children can play on their bikes, live music, fresh food from a local farmers market and healthy cooking demonstrations.
