MN Bicyclist Group Calls Bike Permit Bill ‘Royally Stupid’
Should bicyclists have to buy a permit before using bike lanes? That’s what one bill introduced in the Minnesota State Legislature this week would do if signed into law.
House File 499, introduced by Republican Duane Quam, would require bikers to buy a permit, pay a $5 fee, and complete a bicycle safety education program. Bikers would also have to register their bike with the commissioner of public safety.
