Paris to Cut Cars, Double Bike Lanes by 2020

aris took a huge leap up our roster of Top International Bike-Friendly Cities on Sunday when Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced plans to cut out cars from the city center by 2020. In a statement to the French press, the city’s first female mayor vowed to fight rampant pollution by outright banning diesel-fuel vehicles within Paris and regular (non-electric, non-hybrid) cars from the city’s more polluted downtown roads.

Throw out a bicycle in Lake County and you may be making a donation without even knowing it. Workers at the Lake County Landfill have dozens of recycled bicycles ready to go to new homes just in time for the holidays. A few years ago workers like Patricia Cotoia noticed usable bikes going into the landfill and thought “that it was a waste and they could be re-purposed for people who need them.”
Tired of being bumped, Caltrain bike commuters push for more space

Bike ridership on Caltrain has more than tripled in the past decade, according to research from the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. In both 2009 and 2011, Caltrain increased bike capacity; but bike ridership is still on the rise, up 19.6 percent from last year. Roughly 13 percent of passengers bring a bicycle on the train.
