NICA news: Giro, Kinetic and Primal step up sponsorship; 2013 fundraising sets record

The news from the National Interscholastic Cycling Association is that Giro Sport Design, Kinetic Trainers and Primal clothing have each either continued or expanded their sponsorship for 2014. Meanwhile, NICA, which coordinates high school mountain bike racing leagues in nine leagues, is reporting record fundraising in 2013.

The Element is a 250 watt e-bike designed by Olivier Murro for Wipe2. The bike features a Daum electric pedelec motor, a unisex frame made from two stamped aluminum surfaces, and a removable battery case. LED lights are integrated into the battery pack section of the downtube for increased visibility.

If you had to make an educated guess about where they’re building the apartment complex with the most bike parking in North America, you might put your money on Portland, Oregon. Bingo! As reported on the Bike Portland blog, a 657-apartment project planned for Portland’s Inner East neighborhood will have a whopping 1,200 bike parking spaces, an acknowledgment of the city’s cyclo-centric culture.

Weather will continue to play an important role in the U.S. bicycle business in 2014, but other issues are driving a continuing soft market, according to a new analysis from the Gluskin Townley Group. The report includes seven predictions for 2014 based on research, analysis of demographic trends and, alas, weather reports:
