Sacramento to host Tour of California start?

The Californian capital city of Sacramento is a “strong candidate” to return as a host city for the 2014 Amgen Tour of California, according to a report published Monday.

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all someone comes along with an electric assist ordinary bicycle. DING3000 partnered with BASF on the Concept 1865 electric assist bike as an exercise in advanced plastics construction.

Former Giant reps to launch expo in Santa Monica

Two former Giant employees are launching a consumer event at a location that would be a first for the industry—adjacent to the historic Santa Monica Pier. Andy Gilliam, the expo’s director, told Bicycle Retailer that he has secured permits and support from the city to host the Santa Monica Bicycle Expo in a 36,000-square-foot parking lot a short walk from the 104-year-old pier. The expo will be held May 2-4.  The pair picked the dates to fall in between Sea Otter’s early April show and the start of the Tour of California later in May.

Bike Share Programs Are Not Tax-Free, Says The IRS

Along with other unpopular things the IRS has done recently, you can add treating bike share benefits as taxable. Bike share programs are primarily for short-term use in urban areas as alternatives to private vehicles, taxis or mass transit. Bikes are rented at one docking station and may be returned there or at any other docking station. The stated goals are reducing traffic congestion, noise and air pollution.
