Missoula auction business to put recovered bikes up for bid

It was probably just the warm sun that made it feel like spring Monday, but what better time for a bike auction with the big thaw just around the corner. Paula Miller of Gardner’s Auction Service, 4810 U.S. Highway 93 S., was getting things ready Monday morning for the winter auction of bicycles recovered by local law enforcement in the past two to three months. More than 60 bicycles will be auctioned Wednesday at Gardner’s beginning at 4:30 p.m. Interested buyers can view the bikes from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. the day of the auction. Cash or local checks with identification are accepted for payment.

Megan Odett, who founded Kidical Mass DC in April 2011 to encourage family cycling, conducted a survey [PDF] of attitudes about biking with kids. She said she found men worry more about safety than women. In her survey, women ranked distance – and their own physical limitations — as a bigger barrier.
